23 September, 2013 (10:26) | Uncategorized | By: admin

Childhood obesity has become a major epidemic in this country in the last few decades. Drinking water is one way to fight this major battle that all Americans should join against. While it may be the end-all of this serious issue, it is one way to promote healthy decisions and to teach our youth about their health that they can carry into adulthood. The habits that we learn when we are young are life-long. As parents, we also need to provide these healthy choices such as safe drinking water free of contaminants with a water purifier to our kids as a viable and available beverage choice. Childhood obesity has increased more than fourfold in children between the ages of 6 and 11. More than 23 million children and teens in this country between the ages of 2 and 19 are considered obese or overweight, a statistic that has alarmed both physicians and parents alike. September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, the perfect time to make a difference.

When a child is obese, they are at early risk for Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and even stroke. According to the CDC, childhood obesity is “out of control.” It has more than doubled in children and tripled in teens in only the last three decades. Our choices as parents do matter and our water treatment company can assist you in finding ways to help our children be healthier and make better choices about what they eat and drink. Filtered drinking water from the tap tastes better and is safer with one of our drinking water systems. Being overweight or obese is often the result of “caloric imbalance,” when too few calories are worked off when compared to how many calories are consumed.

Behavioral and environmental factors can also play a role in a child’s weight, but typically this issue is fueled by what they eat and drink. When you think about what your child and their friends choose to drink each day, how many children choose soft drinks or other sugary beverages over water? WebMD states that “in a nation where one out of every six children is overweight and one out of every three is at risk for being overweight, sweetened drinks are a major health issue.” There are actually 90 published studies that have linked sweetened beverages to children’s weight problems.

Do you children not like water? Try adding lemons or other fruits to make it flavorful. Some of the most common benefits include digestion support, constipation protection, proper blood circulation, and “water also helps transport nutrients and oxygen to cells, regulate body temperature, and maintain electrolyte balance.” As a parent, you also have the choice to filter your tap water. Children can be at risk of getting ill or having developmental issues due to drinking water contamination. Our drinking water filters  use the most advanced filtration technology for reverse osmosis so that contaminants are eliminated at the tap both efficiently and effectively.
