Water Isn’t Just for Drinking

Water is a precious commodity and drinking the right amount of water every day is an important part of keeping our bodies fit and healthy.  However, water is not just for drinking, it plays another crucial role in keeping us healthy.  It’s that time of year again when the weather cools off and the dreaded flu and cold season seems to go on forever.  So how do we prevent the spread of these viruses and keep ourselves safe and healthy while everyone around us seems to be sick?

First, we must understand how these viruses are spread.  According to Flu.gov experts agree that the flu and cold viruses spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks and small droplets containing the virus land in your mouth or nose.  You can also contract the virus by touching the surface of an object that has the virus on it and subsequently touching your mouth, eyes or nose.

While we can’t always control who is coughing or sneezing around us, we are able to control the spread of contact germs by being diligent in washing our hands frequently throughout the day.  Water is an amazing thing and the simple task of washing up with a little bit of soap and some water can go a long way to help ward off these pesky and sometimes dangerous viruses.

If your home has a water softener installed you will even get the added benefit of being able to use less soap to get the job done as well as keeping your skin from drying out with the frequent hand washing.  So during this cold and flu season, use your water for more than drinking and help stop the spread of these nasty viruses.
