27 December, 2013 (06:17) | Water Quality & Health Benefits | By: Smart Marketing

Every year many of us compile a list of New Years Resolutions, hoping to better our lives and ourselves. Unfortunately it is all too common that these efforts become abandoned only a few short weeks after setting our goals, but this year Rayne Water would like to help you stick to your commitments.  One of the most common commitments made during the New Year is the goal of losing weight, something that tends to be easier said than done.

Did you know one of the easiest ways to shed those unwanted pounds if to drink plenty of water?  Studies show that drinking a gallon of water a day will help to increase your metabolism, decrease hunger, and rid your body of unwanted fat. While this is great news for people who don’t want to sacrifice taste for a smaller waste line, some of us still find it difficult to drink a gallon of water a day. Here are a few tips to help increase your daily water intake and shed those unwanted pounds:

Drinking water before you eat helps suppress your appetite, making you feel full and therefore reducing your food intake.

• Replace calorie-filled drinks like juice and soda, with water. If you find water to be boring, add a slice of lemon or flavored stevia. This will also help reduce food cravings since the lemon has pectin.

• Drink your water ice cold. By drinking cold water you are forcing your body to work harder by warming it up, thus increasing the amount of calories your body will burn.

• Invest in a drinking water system to decrease the cost of bottled water. An RO drinking water filter is a great way to ensure you and your family has a constant, ready supply of fresh, clean drinking water.

In addition to water softeners and salt-free conditioners,  Rayne Water offers affordable drinking water systems.  These RO systems are installed under your sink, conveniently delivering clean water to your entire family right at your kitchen faucet. With an RO drinking water system you can be sure to always have enough drinking water, making it much easier to stick to your commitment of losing weight. If hitting the gym is part of your New Years resolution, an RO system  makes it easy to have a fresh, cold bottle of water waiting for you in the fridge before your workout.  To find out how easy having an under-the-sink RO unit can make keeping your New Years weight loss commitments contact a Rayne dealer  near you or visit us on our website at www.RayneOfFullerton.com.

Water Isn’t Just for Drinking

4 December, 2013 (10:25) | Water Treatment Education & Basics | By: Smart Marketing

Water is a precious commodity and drinking the right amount of water every day is an important part of keeping our bodies fit and healthy.  However, water is not just for drinking, it plays another crucial role in keeping us healthy.  It’s that time of year again when the weather cools off and the dreaded flu and cold season seems to go on forever.  So how do we prevent the spread of these viruses and keep ourselves safe and healthy while everyone around us seems to be sick?

First, we must understand how these viruses are spread.  According to Flu.gov experts agree that the flu and cold viruses spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks and small droplets containing the virus land in your mouth or nose.  You can also contract the virus by touching the surface of an object that has the virus on it and subsequently touching your mouth, eyes or nose.

While we can’t always control who is coughing or sneezing around us, we are able to control the spread of contact germs by being diligent in washing our hands frequently throughout the day.  Water is an amazing thing and the simple task of washing up with a little bit of soap and some water can go a long way to help ward off these pesky and sometimes dangerous viruses.

If your home has a water softener installed you will even get the added benefit of being able to use less soap to get the job done as well as keeping your skin from drying out with the frequent hand washing.  So during this cold and flu season, use your water for more than drinking and help stop the spread of these nasty viruses.

The Many Reasons to Drink Safe Tap Water When Pregnant

3 December, 2013 (08:55) | Water Quality & Health Benefits | By: Smart Marketing

Water is essential for life but safe drinking water from a water purifier is also essential for life. It keeps us healthy and our bodies functioning as they should. When it comes to pregnant women, it is also important for both mom and baby to get enough water to prevent dehydration symptoms. Women who are or have been pregnant know that the effects of dehydration are common nonetheless; headaches, nausea, and dizziness can be alleviated by drinking plenty of water. But maybe even more important is the awareness pregnant women should have for the quality of tap water they are consuming. Water contaminants can put pregnant women and other vulnerable groups at risk, so ensuring that your tap water is safe is one of the best things a pregnant woman can do for her unborn baby.

Another reason to drink plenty of safe water when expecting is because pregnancy hormones can wreak havoc on a woman’s face. What may have been smooth skin can often become discolored or may even see more pimples. It is true that drinking water can help to maintain a clear complexion. Second, pregnant women tend to be prone to urinary tract infections. By keeping the urine diluted with a high quantity of fluids such as water, you can minimize the risk of contracting an infection. Finally, many women suffer from edema when pregnant, or swelling associated with high blood pressure. Drinking water can assist in flushing out the sodium that causes swelling.

A recent article from weather.com highlights many of the reasons why the water pregnant women drink needs to be safe and many women may even want to consider a home drinking water system. Pregnant women may in fact face risks from tap water and should consume with caution because as the article explains, a new study published in the Canadian Journal of Economics from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs found that environmental contaminants are linked to a higher rate of birth defects.  Contaminated drinking water can expose pregnant women and their fetus to water pollution, particularly harmful chemicals, which may be associated with birth defects such as low birth weight, premature birth, or even birth defects.

Whatever the link and however serious the risk, there is clearly a need for a home water filter to keep both mom and baby safer. Our RO Systems utilize the most advanced technology for home water filtration on the market and can effectively remove these harmful contaminants, including chemicals, from tap water and turn it into the safe drinking water that every pregnant woman desires and deserves. Do not subject yourself to harmful drinking water contamination any longer. Contact us for more information on our reverse osmosis systems and water purifiers and how our products could fit into your lifestyle. Everyone deserves to have safe drinking water.

The Many Uses of Deionized water

14 November, 2013 (12:39) | Water Treatment Education & Basics | By: Smart Marketing

Deionized water is  water that has been stripped of all minerals (or ions), including sodium, iron, calcium, sulphate and chloride. This “cleaning” process is usually conducted through specially designed ion exchange resins and filters that swap hydrogen ions (H+) for cations and hydroxide ions (OH-) for anions; these then combine to form a water molecule. We all know this deionized water is the better water for use in humidifiers and steam irons, but there are many other uses for deionized water.

In cars, deionized water can be used to top up lead-acid car batteries. If tap water were to be used, the impurities within the tap water would severely reduce the lifespan of the battery, where as with the deionized water this is no longer a concern. Deionized water is also used in engine coolant systems and for diluting concentrated antifreeze. Since the presence of salts can be highly corrosive to a car engine, it is important to use deionized water rather than tap water.  Deionized water has also been found to work great for washing vehicles as well since it leaves less water spot residue once it has dried.

In addition to uses with vehicles, deionized water  or high purity water  has many other commercial applications. Take for instance fire extinguishers, in particular those used where an electrical fire may develop. Deionized water  has a very low electrical conductivity and is therefore much less likely to cause severe damage to electrical equipment.  Along those same lines, deionized water is used to wash sensitive electronic equipment allowing any accumulation of impurities in circuit boards and other devices to be avoided. Aquarium enthusiasts also prefer this type of water due to the large reduction of impurities.   In addition, it also helps to prevent the development of undesired algae since it lacks silicate and phosphate which are essential nutrients needed by these plants.

Pacific Coast Water Systems of Fullerton understands the many commercial benefits to using deionized water and can supply you with the equipment to help. Deionized water is gaining popularity as more and more consumers begin to understand the benefits to using a deionization process to purify water. From semiconductor manufacturing to food processing, planting and many other industries, Pacific Coast Water Systems of Fullerton  offers commercial water treatment systems to fit your needs.

Bottled Water: Maybe You Don’t Always Get What You Pay For

14 November, 2013 (03:52) | Eco-Friendly & Sustainable Water Solutions | By: Smart Marketing

Although bottled water seems to be a reasonably inexpensive choice for people who want quality drinking water, you may not be getting everything you’re paying

Courtesy of http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/10/28/241419373/how-much-water-actually-goes-into-making-a-bottle-of-water

for. In addition to this assumption, purchasing bottled water regularly is actually quite a bit more expensive than if you used a home drinking water system  which takes inexpensive tap water and for an affordable price, turns it into safe, pure, great-tasting drinking water without the devastating water footprint that bottled water companies leave behind.

On the outside, bottled water seems to be a great alternative. But when you pay for bottled water, you are actually paying for a lot of water waste that you may not have known about before. As a multi-billion dollar industry, bottled water companies have plenty of fans. But consumers need to know what goes on during the making of bottled water and we hope to help create an awareness about water waste when it comes to making those plastic bottles and the bottled water itself. Likewise, the majority of those plastic water bottles will end up in our landfills as toxic plastic waste which takes over a thousand years to degrade. A recent article from Thomas Andrew Gustafson from NPR recently discussed the true cost of bottled water – beyond just the roughly 50 billion plastic bottles we throw away every year.

Environmentalists have always claimed that the bottled water industry was detrimental to our environment. In response, the International Bottled Water Industry did a study to determine how much water goes into producing a liter of bottled water. While the initial findings showed that it takes 1.39 liters to produce 1 liter, less than beer, soda, wine and hard liquor, there were other components that added to the overall water footprint that is alarming. According to Gustafson, water used in production, packaging and delivery increase the amount of water going into making the bottle could be up to six or seven times what’s inside the bottle.

As the bottled water industry begins to analyze their water footprints to find opportunities for conservation, we encourage you to learn more about our drinking water systems such as a home water purifier which is much more eco-friendly and can turn tap water into clean, safe drinking water by effectively removing harmful contaminants that can occur naturally in our tap water through innovative water filtration technology. Our drinking water systems and water filters  are affordable and will reduce water waste and water footprints as well as plastic bottles in our landfills. Reverse osmosis is one way to get what you pay for instead of failing to know the true cost of your bottled water. To read the article from NPR, click here.

Hurricane Katrina Still Leaving Her Mark on the South

24 October, 2013 (07:56) | Water Quality & Health Benefits | By: Smart Marketing

According to recent news, drinking water in the south is battling yet another harmful contaminant and Hurricane Katrina could still be leaving her mark on the south. Without proper drinking water filters, homes affected by the storm in 2005 could find themselves questioning the safety and purity of their tap water, particularly St. Bernard Parish. As if the thousands of people haven’t gone through enough already, the storm is still rearing her ugly head even today. A four-year-old boy from Louisiana lost his life to a brain eating amoeba in the drinking water in his home. The possible cause of the brain eating amoeba in that tap water could also pose risk for other residents.

A recent article from Water Tech Online last month outlined the devastating situation. Because St. Bernard Parish was beneath 15 feet of water from flooding back in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated areas of Louisiana, when water pipes broke and the water pressure was zero. Jake Causey, chief engineer for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, said that the water “sat” around the parish and in the sun for years, creating a breeding ground for bacteria such as this amoeba which could have infiltrated the tap water and caused the boy’s deadly diagnosis.

NBC News journalist Maggie Fox also published information on the topic last month, writing that the risk alarmed local schools to shut off water fountains to protect their children. Although the water was said to be safe, the schools wanted to take every precaution they could so that the same situation doesn’t occur again. Unfortunately, homes in the area are on their own when it comes to protecting their drinking water. Municipalities and public water systems often require residents to defend their own water after a natural disaster until the bigger filtration systems are improved or repaired. A drinking water system can filter out contaminants and improve the quality and taste of tap water. Our drinking water filters use the most advanced water filtration technology and are a form of defense against potential drinking water hazards.

In St. Bernard Parish, officials have decided to shock the water system with chlorine. Homes with drinking water systems  will also be prepared for the changes or issues with high levels of chlorine in their tap water as well. Anyone concerned about the devastation that natural disasters can have on our drinking water can find peace of mind with a home drinking water system. Not only will you have a barrier from bacteria or these dangerous amoebas, but other contaminants will also be filtered at the tap. We know that many contaminants can be risky to our health. Contamination may not be imminent in all natural disasters, but the protection you seek from our products is.

Why is Drinking Water so Important?

23 September, 2013 (11:33) | Water Quality & Health Benefits | By: Smart Marketing

One doesn’t have to look very far to find persuasive evidence that drinking water is good for your health.  As far back as we can remember we have been told to drink eight glasses of water a day and while that actual number has been changed recently, it doesn’t change the fact that water is essential to health and well being.  But why is water so important?  Why do doctors and nutritionists constantly tell us to drink more water?

The most compelling reason is to ward off dehydration.  When our bodies are dehydrated, they cannot function properly; blood flow is drastically decreased which results in less blood and oxygen reaching our organs and causes our bodies to go into shock and shut down.  Even mild dehydration can cause us to feel tired and sluggish and it becomes much harder to concentrate.

Beyond dehydration though, there are many health benefits our bodies can derive when we increase our water intake.  Many diet plans advocate drinking large amounts of water and their reasoning is sound.  Water amps up your metabolism, and when you drink ice cold water your body must work to warm the water up, therefore burning even more calories.  Water also helps you feel fuller and since it has absolutely zero calories you can drink all you want.

When we age, our bodies tend to lose water naturally; our muscles and our skin are the biggest contributors to water loss as we age.  Older individuals tend to notice that their skin is dryer, tighter and flakier and since dry skin is less resilient and prone to wrinkling, keeping it moisturized it will help them look younger.  Using topical moisturizer is going to help some, but considering lack of water is the underlying problem it is considerably more beneficial to hydrate from the inside out.  Drinking more water hydrates skin cells and plumps them up helping to make your face look younger.  Water also flushes out impurities giving your skin a nice healthy glow.

Drinking water for better health isn’t just a myth, there are considerable health benefits to keeping hydrated.  Drinking a glass of water in the morning, one at each meal, one in between your meals and then one more before bedtime is a great starting point.  If you are exercising make sure you drink before, during and after to help keep your muscles and your body at optimum performance.  It’s the secret to a healthier life, so go drink a glass of water now and feel good knowing you are doing great things for your body.

Childhood Obesity Fought With Drinking Water

23 September, 2013 (10:26) | Water Quality & Health Benefits | By: Smart Marketing

Childhood obesity has become a major epidemic in this country in the last few decades. Drinking water is one way to fight this major battle that all Americans should join against. While it may be the end-all of this serious issue, it is one way to promote healthy decisions and to teach our youth about their health that they can carry into adulthood. The habits that we learn when we are young are life-long. As parents, we also need to provide these healthy choices such as safe drinking water free of contaminants with a water purifier to our kids as a viable and available beverage choice. Childhood obesity has increased more than fourfold in children between the ages of 6 and 11. More than 23 million children and teens in this country between the ages of 2 and 19 are considered obese or overweight, a statistic that has alarmed both physicians and parents alike. September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, the perfect time to make a difference.

When a child is obese, they are at early risk for Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and even stroke. According to the CDC, childhood obesity is “out of control.” It has more than doubled in children and tripled in teens in only the last three decades. Our choices as parents do matter and our water treatment company can assist you in finding ways to help our children be healthier and make better choices about what they eat and drink. Filtered drinking water from the tap tastes better and is safer with one of our drinking water systems. Being overweight or obese is often the result of “caloric imbalance,” when too few calories are worked off when compared to how many calories are consumed.

Behavioral and environmental factors can also play a role in a child’s weight, but typically this issue is fueled by what they eat and drink. When you think about what your child and their friends choose to drink each day, how many children choose soft drinks or other sugary beverages over water? WebMD states that “in a nation where one out of every six children is overweight and one out of every three is at risk for being overweight, sweetened drinks are a major health issue.” There are actually 90 published studies that have linked sweetened beverages to children’s weight problems.

Do you children not like water? Try adding lemons or other fruits to make it flavorful. Some of the most common benefits include digestion support, constipation protection, proper blood circulation, and “water also helps transport nutrients and oxygen to cells, regulate body temperature, and maintain electrolyte balance.” As a parent, you also have the choice to filter your tap water. Children can be at risk of getting ill or having developmental issues due to drinking water contamination. Our drinking water filters  use the most advanced filtration technology for reverse osmosis so that contaminants are eliminated at the tap both efficiently and effectively. Contact our company today to see how your choices and the choices of your children can be supported as you improve the quality of your drinking water and instill valuable habits early on.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Fracking

28 August, 2013 (09:29) | Water Quality & Health Benefits | By: Smart Marketing

There are usually two sides to every story and when it comes to the issue of fracking, it is not uncommon to hear both. There are known and potential advantages and disadvantages and even serious hazards which is the reason why it has brought about so much controversy in this country lately. Before you can form your own opinion, it is important to understand just what fracking is, and the two very different sides of the controversy. Once you learn what the process entails, you may feel better with a home drinking water system improving the quality of your tap water – even if it’s not fracking that worries you about your water.

What is fracking? Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock. During fracking, they drill down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well. The process is carried out vertically or, more commonly, by drilling horizontally to the rock layer. The process can create new pathways to release gas or can be used to extend existing channels.

Those who are in favor of fracking argue that fracking allows drilling firms to access difficult-to-reach resources of oil and gas. In some countries, it has significantly boosted domestic oil production and driven down gas prices. It is estimated to have offered gas security to the United States and Canada for about 100 years, and has presented an opportunity to generate electricity at half the CO2 emissions of coal. On the other hand, fracking uses huge amounts of water that must be transported to the fracking site, at significant environmental cost. The second is the worry that potentially carcinogenic chemicals used may escape and contaminate groundwater around the fracking site. The industry suggests pollution incidents are the results of bad practice, rather than an inherently risky technique. There are also worries that the fracking process can cause small earth tremors.

Could it impact water? Both sides argue that it could or will not impact our drinking water. If you are concerned about contamination from fracking, or any other local industry, you should invest in a reverse osmosis drinking water system for your home. With our water purifiers, the unknown dangers of fracking effects and the contamination of other chemicals or substances are reduced and you are left with high-quality, healthy drinking water. The oil and gas industry may be utilizing new technology to seek alternative national gas extraction methods, but new drinking water technology can also give consumers protection and an advantage to quality tap water without the worry of the unknown effects of fracking or other means of drinking water contamination.

Exercise More, Drink More – Teaching Children Healthy Habits

15 August, 2013 (09:59) | Water Quality & Health Benefits | By: Smart Marketing

Excerpted from the Chicago Daily Herald, Challenge Issued to Illinois Parents, by Brandon Noel on August 7, 2013 http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20130805/submitted/130809941/

Our drinking water systems are the perfect tools for teaching your children how to live healthy and stay active. The lessons you instill in your child’s youth will be habits they form as they grow older. In order to promote healthy families sharing healthy lifestyles, August 4-10 has been proclaimed National Exercise with Your Child Week. On average, children now spend more than seven-and-a-half hours a day in front of a screen, and less than 20 percent of adults meet the 30 minutes of recommended activity each day as indicated by President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. According to Dr. Sue Walsh, associate professor of health science at Concordia University, “It’s important for Illinois parents to know that their involvement can lead to increased levels of physical activity for their children.”

Modeling and supporting activities with your children, from signing them up to participating with them, still shows that you want your child to form those healthy habits.  “Either way, parents should know that simply being involved can create an important emotional bond between them, their children, and being physically active,” Walsh said. Childhood obesity in the United States has more than doubled in children in the last 30 years. In 2010, more than one third of children and adolescents were labeled overweight or obese. Similarly, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention CDC stated that “overweight and obesity are the result of “caloric imbalance”—too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed—and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors.” This means that we need to get our children moving and learning how to live a healthier lifestyle balanced with healthy eating, exercise, and hydration.

About 75% of your body’s weight consists of water. This water is mostly found in your cells and the rest of it is in blood vessels and the spaces in between your cells. When you feel dehydrated this is a sign that you are losing more water than you are drinking. When you exercise, most of your water loss is through sweat. You need to drink after exercising to replace this water loss. Filling up water bottles with filtered drinking water is a great way to prepare for thirst and to stay hydrated before, during, and after a workout. Our drinking water filters with advanced reverse osmosis technology can provide your household with a nearly unlimited supply of great-tasting drinking water that is free of harmful contaminants, thus supporting the healthy lifestyle you want to teach your children. Healthy habits start with safe drinking water.  Teaching your children about safe drinking water and the importance of hydration starts with a phone call to us for information regarding an affordable drinking water system. You may get a good jumpstart this week, but exercise and hydration is something you can do with your children all year long.
